Mongolia and Australia Meet at ASEAN Regional Forum
At the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) Regional Forum in Jakarta, Mongolian Foreign Minister Pattseg Batmunkh and Australian Foreign Minister Penny Wong met to discuss and strengthen bilateral cooperation between their countries.
Minister Batsetseg expressed her gratitude to Tanya Lawrence, Chair of the Australia-Mongolia Friendship Group, for her participation in the recent Mongolian Economic Forum. The event featured the presence of more than 100 representatives from the Australian business community, including prominent companies such as Rio Tinto, National Australia Bank, ANZ Bank, JPMorgan Cazenove, Goldman Sachs Australia and Export Finance Bank Australia.

The discussion also focused on the third phase of the Australia-Mongolia Mining Program, scheduled to run from 2019 to 2024. Both Ministers recognized the achievements of the program and stressed the importance of continued support to the Australia-Mongolia Business Council, which plays a vital role. In enhancing trade cooperation between the two countries.
In addition, Minister Patsetseg thanked the Australian Government for increasing the number of scholarships available to Mongolian students this year. This initiative reflects Mongolia’s strong interest in expanding educational opportunities for its students in Australia, thus strengthening educational relations between the two countries.

The two ministers concluded the meeting with shared optimism about the future of Mongolian-Australian relations, stressing the need for continued cooperation in key sectors such as the economy, mining and education to promote mutual growth and prosperity.
