Young People and SCA...

"SCA actively encourages the involvement of young people in the Sister Cities movement within Australia"

Many cities, municipalities and shires in Australia have at least one sister city relationship with a city or town overseas, or within Australia with many having multiple affiliations.

So 'What' is the Sister City Movement?

The sister cities movement was started after World War II with the purpose of establishing friendship links between different communities throughout the world. Basically it was the idea that it’s better for global relations to have a city or town as a friend rather than as a stranger.

Sister Cities Australia aims to promote sister city activities in Australia by encouraging the establishment of sister city relationships and by the active participation of its members.

Why Get Involved?

Young people involved in the sister city movement can be presented with fantastic opportunities to become involved in their local community as well as with a community in another country.

Young people involved in the SCA Youth Program have the chance to develop personal skills such as leadership and public speaking, learn the importance of cultural awareness and at the same time can forge new friendships and gain valuable life experience.

How do I Get Involved?

If you are between the ages of 16 and 23 and associated with a member of Sister Cities Australia Inc. that has an adult delegate attending a conference you can take part in the National Youth Program by attending the National Conference. These conferences are held in a different city each year. Contact Bill Wilson at the SCA to find out what is happening in your local area and to get the details of someone to contact.

Youth Related Links...

If you have sister city or appropriate youth related links that we can use to start a list, please email them to us. Contact Bill Wilson at the for further information.
