WILLLOUGHBY CITY COUNCIL AND JINNIU DISTRICT, CHENGDU, CHINA
Coordination of the Willoughby community’s strongly expressed interest to support residents of Jinniu and other survivors of the 2008 earthquakes in China. Within a very short timeframe, the project facilitated the expression of community support for the people of Jinniu, Chengdu Province in a time of crisis – family members, colleagues, counterparts, complete strangers alike.
To embody the spirit of true friendship between the people of 2 cities. Following the earthquake, Willoughby Council was well placed to coordinate a local community response to the humanitarian crisis (by collecting funds and contributing them to the Australian Red Cross Appeal) in order to support the human and logistical needs of earthquake affected China.
To show support for local people who might have a direct link to the people of Jinniu and other earthquake affected areas.
